RI, New Box...Point Judith

From: MadMary (madmary@cox.net) | Date: 2002-07-25 21:43:10 UTC-04:00
Here's still another lighthouse letterbox.  This is my first letterbox, and any feedback is welcome.  It's practically a drive-up, so not not much of a challenge, but if you're headed for the beach, or feel like doing a little fishing, stop on by and stamp on in!

Thanks,

Mare

Name of the Box:  Point Judith Letterbox
Placed on:  July 25, 2002
Located in:  Washington County, RI
Closest to:  Narragansett, RI

Difficulty:  Easy
Hazards:  Broken glass, ticks
Note:  Try not to let others see what you're up to, and re-hide carefully.  Also, please tread lightly on the grass.

Directions:  Take Rt. 108 South in Narragansett towards Point Judith.  Then...

Where Auntie's and Iggy's appear in the mist,
A road to the south will bring you to this.

Just past the refuge for folks from the city,
Turn right down the road whose with a surface that's gritty.

To stop or to swim is the choice at this place,
Hop out of the car, and turn about-face.

Head back up the road, past the hill that looks dented,
Once teaming with soldiers, most now long lamented.

Boulders stand watch 'cross a road just for ghosts,
Whose eyes ever sharp, safeguarded our coast.

Follow their lead, to the gun that did roar,
Now just a ring, set back from the shore.

Circled by concrete, in the center of grass,
'Neath a pile of rocks, is where lies the stash.

Right in my own backyard!

And I'll pass right on by Surfer Mr. Potato Head on the way!

(waves to cscm and rustypuff)

Hey Moonstone Baby - we should box this one together! How does
*early* Sunday morning the 28th work for you?

Hey Warrior Woman, we share a back yard! I live in Sand Hill Cove, so you
must be somewhere east of me if you have to pass that silly potato. I
thought it would be fun to put my first box in walking distance so I could
peek in at the log now and then, but I had a hard time figuring out where to
put it. Please be brutally honest if you think either the location or the
clues are bad.

It's so cool to hear that someone is actually interested!

My kitchen windows overlook Scarborough!

Moonstone Baby and I are meeting on Monday to scope it out. This
weekend will be too busy, what with the Blessing of the Fleet,
Narragansett Pier carnival AND the Hot Air Balloon Festival at URI!

I, too, placed a letterbox within walking distance of my home for the
same purpose (I live in Central MA; Narragansett is just my summer
home). Actually, all of my letterboxes are within a 15 minute drive
of my home so that I can routinely do "care and feeding".

Will report back. Thanks so much for placing this letterbox. I was
sad to see that all the Harbor of Refuge boxes are now gone (got them
all last summer - phew!) as are both of the LMW & YIMS Point Judith
boxes (got the original last summer, too - phew!).

Off the airwaves for the next few weeks ... Narragansett is
the "unplugged" version of my life :-)
